The Problem

Many women in rural India suffer in silence from reproductive and sexual health (SRH) issues because of deep societal stigma, shame, and fear. While they need guidance on contraception, menstruation, pregnancy, and vaginal health, seeking clinical care is blocked by transport costs, lack of local female doctors, and medical jargon. Google searches yield English-centric, complex, or misleading info, and long web forms are too complex for low-literacy users. Myna Mahila Foundation needed an accessible, private channel where women could ask questions naturally in their local languages (Hinglish, Hindi, Marathi, Telugu) and mixed text/voice messages without fear of exposure.

Our Approach

  1. 01

Engineered the conversational layer and dialogue architecture on Turn.io and WhatsApp Business APIs, supporting multi-turn dialogue, voice inputs, and image-based queries.

  2. 02

Built a confidence-based AI clarification engine using OpenAI to parse Hinglish (Romanized Hindi), Marathi, Hindi, and Telugu, resolving ambiguous health questions before generating answers.

  3. 03

Implemented an ElasticSearch-powered medical dictionary to automatically translate complex medical jargon into simple, comforting, localized vernacular terms.

  4. 04

Designed robust safety guardrails and crisis detection, automatically scanning for domestic violence, self-harm, or extreme health risks to trigger immediate counselor handoffs via Slack integrations.

  5. 05

Created automated re-engagement and telehealth follow-up campaigns via WhatsApp outbound templates to reconnect users to doctors and counseling sessions.

  6. 06

Developed a unified analytics and Metabase dashboard integrated with Mixpanel to monitor confidence scores, fallback rates, language splits, and drop-off funnels.

Outcome

Myna Saheli successfully deployed as a safe, private health companion, engaging over 23,700 unique users. By bridging the gap to clinical care, the system handled over 77k Hinglish and 20k Hindi interactions, routed 285 domestic violence disclosures to vital support pathways (like Majlis), and transitioned taboos and silent suffering into secure, conversational support directly on the phone.
